Live score for India vs. England, first test: After the ENG openers struck quickly against the pacers, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have claimed two wickets.
Live score for India vs. England, first test day one: In Hyderabad, Ben Stokes, the captain of England, has won the toss and decided to bat first. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, the openers, were aggressive from the start, smashing Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah all over the field in the opening ten overs. But after the spinners entered the contest, India stormed ahead. Duckett was removed by Ravichandran Ashwin in the twelfth over, drawing the first blood. After that, Jadeja took Ollie Pope’s wicket, which allowed Joe Root to enter. On the second ball that Root faced off Jadeja, he had a near miss as India attempted in vain to overturn a rejected LBW claim.
After almost two and a half years, England returns to India. During that time, both teams have changed leaders and coaches. In the 2020–21 series, Ravi Shastri was the coach of India, which was captained by Virat Kohli. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were essential members of the team. Kohli will miss the first two Test matches due to injury, therefore both of those mainstays are out of the lineup this time. Rahul Dravid is the head coach, and Rohit Sharma is the captain. This will be Sharma’s maiden five-match Test series as captain. Other than that, though, it’s hard to argue that a player’s strategy has altered significantly in the game’s longest format.
However, this cannot be true of England. With the arrival of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum in May 2022, England’s style of playing Test cricket has almost taken the globe by storm. Even by ODI standards, their scoring rates are frequently high, and their forceful declarations have either helped them win on placid pitches like those in Pakistan or cost them easy wins, as they did in the first Ashes Test of the previous year. Whether England’s “Bazball” can succeed when they tour India has always been a major question mark.
We’ll find out, but even though England hasn’t lost a series since Stokes and McCullum took over, they are still the underdogs in this one, with India winning the series without a surprise. In the 2012–13 series, England is the last team to have defeated India in India. Since then, India has only lost three Test matches overall and has never even nearly lost a series at home.
Their current winning streak is sixteen, six more than the next highest, which was ten, maintained by the all-conquering Australian teams of the late 1990s and early 2000s under the leadership of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting. Both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are nearing the end of their careers, have been instrumental in this run of success and are still quite effective with the bat and the ball. Taking into account that Axar Patel is another really successful spin-bowling all-round player, it’s pretty obvious that any sort of success for England in this series would be a testament to their strategy, Bazball or not.
Here are a few of the standout moments from the first Test between England and India.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England, chose to bat after winning the toss.
- Axar Patel is the third spinner used by India, and KS Bharat is taking wickets.
- Virat Kohli will be replaced at No. 4 by KL Rahul.
Since 2012–2013, India has not lost a series at home.
Since Ben Stokes assumed the role of Test captain and Brendon McCullum assumed the role of head coach, England has not lost a series.

Live score for India vs. England, first day of the first test: ball change coming
Live score for India vs. England, first test day one: The umpire must replace the ball in just 20 overs because it does not pass through the ring in his hands. Live score for India vs. England, first test day one: A brief fright for Root
Live score for India vs England, First Test Day 1: Joe Root came on after Pope was dismissed, and the legendary player had a frightening incident off the second ball he faced. Paddling it off the stumps and the Indians’ appeal was his attempt. Even when the umpire says no, Jadeja persuades Rohit to go upstairs. It’s difficult to tell from the replay if there was a bat on it, and loading ultra edge takes a while. When it does, it is extremely scratchy, but Marais Erasmus, the third umpire, determines that there is a slight murmur as the ball passes the bat.

Live score for India against England, first test day one: OUT! Ashwin makes the breakthrough!
Live score of India vs. England, First Test Day 1: India celebrate after the umpire grants a big appeal. Duckett, however, gives a confident review of it. He tells Crawley that the bounce was too high even though he doesn’t have a bat on it. The ball clips the bails on the middle and leg, but the ball tracking maintains the umpire’s appeal. Naturally, Duckett is not happy about that, but after giving England a great start, he must leave.

Nine runs have been scored in the eighth over, and spin is used for the first time. For the ninth over, Jasprit Bumrah is replaced by Ravindra Jadeja. Seeing as how the England openers, who have so far performed admirably against pacers, handle this circumstance will be interesting. Crawley on 16 off 22 and Duckett on 23 off 27.

Live score for India against England, first test day one: 5 overs completed
Live score for India vs. England, first test day one: Whether England is playing well or poorly, bazball is always fun to watch, and that was evident today in the first five overs of a Test match, if you can believe that. With the sixth delivery of that over, Bumrah slashed through Duckett, the ball striking the seam and dipping in to beat his inside edge as the batter attempted to go through mid-off. After that, Duckett is on 11 off 13.You are aware that his strike rate has suffered here. Crawley off of 17 on 15.
